My mission
In high school, writing and story-telling in general came very natural to me. I was always encouraged to expound my thoughts in long-form papers and to express my viewpoints in a detail and clarity.
When I started looking at what I wanted to do with my life, I began to look into the journalism industry. And after doing some searching, it became clear to me that journalism was definitely something I could see myself doing for a very long time. So naturally, I started looking at the colleges with the best journalism schools. This college search eventually led me to a university that was in my own state of Missouri-the University of Missouri- Columbia, more commonly known as Mizzou.
At Mizzou's journalism school, I learned a variety of new skills and strengthened many of the skills that I had previously. I not only learned how to find good stories to tell from real people, but I learned how to tell those stories accurately, concisely, and in great detail. But as I continued to gain more and more journalism experience through both school and jobs, I realized that I might not necessarily want to be that field reporter that has that responsibility of finding stories and having to stress over the uncertainty of where I might be from one day to another. So, I decided to specialize in multimedia producing and editing to better suit my strengths and comfort level, but would allow me to keep my options open to all fields of journalism.
Currently, I am working at Newsy: an all-digital news outlet that specializes in creating two-minute videos that concisely and accurately tell and analyze stories of all types (national, international, business, science, sports, etc.) by using other notable news sources. While Newsy might be a relatively small outlet right now, it is always growing, expanding, and being recognized by several important analysts of the news world as a legitimate contender in the mobile and digital news markets.
As I move through life, I will always have the same goal and mission that I've had since I started in the journalism field- and that is to always tell stories that are compelling to audiences, tell those stories in an ethical and accurate manner, and to enjoy what I get to do every day.
